Abstract:

A sampling program of headspace gas from four monitoring wells and of off-site migration at three property line sites was conducted as part of a remedial design of a municipal landfill. The sampling results indicate a reliable quantitation of landfill gas composition and properties, evident by the precision of triplicate samples and nondetectable levels in field blanks. The intent of this paper is to make available these empirical data on gas emissions from this landfill. The data may be useful to air quality professionals who desire to determine compounds of emission and to estimate emission rates from similar landfills. This paper provides an example of the successful use of specific measurement methods, but does not attempt to formally validate the methods specifically for landfill gas analyses.
