Abstract:

Large offshore breakwater and groins have been constructed at Oarai Port, Japan. As a result, the coast experienced significant topographic changes. In this paper, the responses of the coastal topography to the port structure construction are studied by analyzing survey data accumulated for over 10 years. From multi-sided viewpoints, spatial and temporal characteristics of topographic change are determined. Among the structures extended or constructed, the offshore breakwater has significant effects on the direction and rate of sediment transport through the modification of the wave and current fields.
