Abstract:

In connection with hydraulic studies for development of a new harbour on the SW-corner of Male Island in the Maldives, the author took an interest in the phenomena of waves on coral reefs. This interest was initiated by the occurrence of severe inundation on the island due to strong swells and the scarce amount of literature describing these wave phenomena. To investigate the wave breaking and setup characteristics on coral reefs, a research project has been undertaken including scale model tests.
