Abstract:

An expert system to aid in selecting shear-strength parameters for use in stability analysis was developed for use on a PC. It provides guidance in interpreting strength measurements and also provides estimates of strength parameters for use when strength data are not available, or for comparison purposes. The development process was also an investigation into the applicability of expert system technology in geotechnical engineering.
