Abstract:

This paper describes a methodology for dynamic response analysis of three-dimensional beam-columns, whereby an elastic force's axial-flexural interaction is modeled with stability functions, inertial forces are modeled with lumped masses, and dynamic response determined by utilizing the mode superposition method. Results indicate that the level of axial-flexural interaction profoundly affects the dynamic response behavior, and that the addition of dynamic effects can drive a statically stable structure to become unstable.
