Abstract:

A simple numerical model for simulation of air bubble transport in the flow downstream from an aerator is constructed and compared with laboratory experiments. The model consists of two parts: one for velocity and turbulent diffusivity fields, and the other for air-bubble concentration. Numerical results show that variation of air concentration near the spillway surface is primarily affected by Froude number and slope angle of spillway surface. They are in fair agreement with experiments by Shih. With further refinement, the numerical model should be applicable to design of spillway aerators.
