Abstract:

In this paper, the applicability of three-parameter power model to the practical use of design analysis for plane frame with semi-rigid connections is discussed. A three-parameter power model used is based on Richard-Abbott's model (1971) and composed of initial connection stiffness Rki, ultimate moment capacity of connection, Mu, and shape parameter n. The two former parameters Rki and Mu can be derived by the simple principles of mechanics. However, the shape parameter n cannot be decided theoretically. Here, we tried to determine it using the least mean square technique for the moment between this model and the experimental test data. Comparison with the structural responses for 1-baby orthogonal frames in case using this proposed model and the experimental test data are executed.
