Abstract:

Active policy documents developed by the National Water Policy Committee of the American Society of Civil Engineeres or in cooperation with other policy committees and approved by the Society's Board of Directors cover the following water issues: wetlands, ground water management, water conservation, emergency management planning by water providers, improvement and maintenance of ports and harbors, weather modification, global climatic change, surface water data collection, cost sharing in water programs, federal-state-local cooperation on water resources projects, implementation of safe drinking water regulations, coastal data collection program, coordination of beach erosion control with channel maintenance, and coastal and offshore development. The first five policy issues are covered in some depth during this session by current and former members of the National Water Policy Committee, which also contributes to the Society's governmental affairs program.
