Abstract:

The primary variables investigated were fiber content and loading history. The reinforcing bar size was ASTM #5. Steel fibers with hooked ends were used with four fiber contents, namely; 0, 50, 75, and 100 lb/cyd. The loading pattern consisted of monotonic, half cyclic, and reversed cyclic pullout loads. The tests were conducted using a modified pullout specimen in which the concrete surrounding the rebar was in tension. The following conclusions can be drawn using the results obtained: i) The fibers provide a major contribution to the ductility of concrete when subjected to monotonic or cyclic pullout loads, ii) for half cyclic loading, the monotonic load-slip curve envelopes the cyclic response, and iii) for reversed cyclic loading the monotonic curve does not represent the envelope of the cyclic response.
