Abstract:

Based on the repeated experiments of overlad flow on the Loess slope under the condition of constant and variable artificial rainfall intensity in laboratory, the mathematical model corresponding to the processes was presented. Numerical solution obtained by finite element approximation compared well with the results of experiments, which shows that the mathematical model is feasible. The model then was used to simulate the overland flow processes on the Loess slope induced by artificial and natural rainfall in the field. The results obtained from runoff plots in Gansu Province (20x2 m) and in North Shaanxi Province (64x15 m) were satisfactory.
