Abstract:

Rainfall intensity data are required to drive infiltration-based runoff models. Because data are sparse and cumbersome, a model to generate reasonable sequences of data is needed. Studying available data and characterizing rainfall events are the first steps in developing such a model. This study analyses arid-land rainfall traits: depth, duration, interlude, maximum intensity, and time to maximum intensity. The effect of chart speed on event statistics is shown. Sensitivity of an infiltration model to the time interval of synthetic input data is demonstrated.
