Abstract:

Observing the form of the Penman-J.L. Monteith equation, it can be seen that several terms could be potentially estimated from remotely sensed data. These include: net radiation, canopy resistance as a function of leaf area index, canopy height, height/width ratio and, as a consequence, the zero plane displacement and roughness length. This paper investigates the use of canopy reflectances in the form of vegetation indices for obtaining some of the input variables to the Penman-Monteith equation, specifically, the zero plane displacement height of the measurement surface, the roughness length for momentum transfer, and the leaf area index of corn.
