Abstract:

This paper discusses methods found to be useful in applying selected lower cost microcomputer-CADD systems in the civil engineering environment CAD is defined as Computer Aided Drafting and CADD as Computer Aided Drafting and Design. It examines the introduction and application of one of the popular IBM compatible systems - AutoCAD - on various civil design and drafting assignments including a road/traffic project and a facilities engineering project. Its purpose is to overview the procedures and techniques used in these applications and to provide some general guidelines others may find useful in their own applications. It suggests methods of implementing microcomputer aided design and drafting systems to reduce inefficiencies and attain a high degree of productive output at the start.
