Abstract:

Satellite images may also facilitate the development and maintenance of regional Geographic Information Systems (GIS) by providing both a source of base map creation and update, as well as a method for evaluating land use changes through time. Landsat TM, SPOT MS and SPOT Panchromatic data have been registered to State Plane or UTM coordinates using two methods, either control points are taken from U.S.G.S. 7.5' quadrangle maps or control points are taken from computer base maps developed from controlled aerial surveys. Land cover information is often combined with soils data then summarized according to sub-drainage area and used as input to the hydrology model for various watersheds under study.
