Abstract:

This paper explores the history of the Dallas Floodway, past performance of the project under various flood conditions and, most recently, the present successes in flood protection provided during the record rainfalls of May and June 1989. The Dallas Floodway, as an integral part of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' flood protection plan for the Trinity River, has provided direct and indirect benefits to the City of Dallas throughout its history of almost 60 years.
