Abstract:

Land application is an established method for treating municipal wastewater in the United States. Most land application operations include on-site facilities to store wastewater during periods when the effluent supply exceeds the allowable release to the treatment field. This paper presents a case study which demonstrates how a monthly wastewater balance at a storage pond can be used to measure the performance of an existing land treatment operation. The case study involves the Hancock Farm land application system near Lubbock, Texas where municipal wastewater has been used for nearly 10 years to irrigate approximately 1,150 hectares of cultivated land.
