Part of: High Level Radioactive Waste Management 1990

Abstract:

The second Swedish programme on research, development and demonstration in the nuclear radioactive waste management area was submitted by SKB to the Swedish National Board for Spent Nuclear Fuel in September 1989. The aim of the programme is to further develop and establish the technology for final disposal of spent fuel without reprocessing. In the 1990s the emphasis will be on site selection and characterization and on selection and verification of a principal disposal design. The goal is to be ready to start repository construction in 2010. Some key items of the new programme are presented, in particular, a new underground research laboratory with construction start planned for 1990.
