Abstract: This paper describes the process by which economic and demographic estimates and projections will be prepared to determine the potential economic and demographic impacts that may result from the development of the proposed nuclear waste repository at Yucca Mountain. The process utilized to develop these data consists of various methodologies that are commonly utilized in local and regional studies. This particular procedure is unique in that it combines models and methodologies that are designed to 1) generate data for three distinct geographics; i.e., county totals, individual communities, and grid cells (each with an 8 kilometer radius and arcs of 22.5 degrees) within the 84 kilometer radius from Yucca Mountain, and 2) develop economic and demographic forecasts in an area that is sparsely populated and largely publicly owned. Although this process is designed to generate a data base for the Yucca Mountain Project, it could be applied to any area requiring economic-demographic estimates and projections to be utilized in impact assessments.
