Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: High Level Radioactive Waste Management 1990

Abstract:

The paper considers the evolution of BNFL's transportation system and those lessons learned and incorporated or being incorporated in the system as it continues to evolve. The principal focus is operation of the transport system to a whole. Over 20 years' experience of operations have influenced all aspects of the transport from design, handling, emergency response and the design of receipt and maintenance facilities. Combined with new design/analysis techniques a detailed understanding of operations has produced a method of assessing radiation dose uptake for individual classes of workers. This gives the prospect of a more rigorous basis for allocating resources for dose-reducing measures for individual areas of the plant.
