Abstract:

The Department of Energy (DOE) has a legislative mandate to avoid, minimize and mitigate any adverse impacts to local communities resulting from activities at the Yucca Mountain Repository Project. Through the implementation of specific management policy decisions, DOE may influence worker settlement patterns, thereby affecting the location and degree of associated impacts. This proactive management of socioeconomic impacts should be performed in consultation with State and local governments; to identify those areas willing and able to accommodate the growth, and to provide a basis for addressing institutional issues which may arise.
