Abstract:

A concept of joint probability of elastic and plastic instability modes was formerly given for single columns and now it is extended for framed systems. A critical load is defined for the perfectly elastic behaviour. A limit of plasticity is for the rigid-plastic frame. The elastic and plastic instability cases are considered as two independent failure modes of the same frame and the Weibull probability distributions are applied for the two conditional limits. A simple solution is derived under assumption that coefficients of variation of elastic and plastic limits are equal and either constant or dependent on the frame slenderness.
