Abstract:

The spatial variation of seismic ground motions necessary for lifeline analysis is determined from a stochastic source model combined with a substitute system representing the equivalent transmission effect. The transfer function of the system is developed through system identification using the results of a three-dimensional wave propagation model. With the resulting transfer function of the system and the given power spectral density at the source, the power spectral density of differential ground motions can be estimated, and then used for lifeline analysis.
