Abstract:

Cofferdam construction costs can be a major factor in the viability of a small hydro development. For this reason, cost-effective design and construction are critical. A cost-effective cofferdam design must incorporate construction methods and materials which are innovative enough to overcome specific site and economic limitations. This paper addresses the careful coordination that took place between engineer and contractor during the development and implementation of a successful cofferdam. The design difficulties and construction problems for the cofferdam are examined, as well as the solutions which led to the timely completion of the project.
