Abstract:

Mud Mountain Dam is a single-purpose flood control project located on the White River in western Washington State. The existing flood control outlet works consist of an upstream controlled 9-foot horseshoe-shaped tunnel and a downstream controlled 23-foot diameter tunnel. Proposed modifications to eliminate existing inadequacies include construction of a single intake tower to service both tunnels, replacement of the 23-foot tunnel control valves with upstream controls, and addition of emergency closure gates for both tunnels. The design is being verified in a physical model at the Waterways Experiment Station.
