Hydraulic Model and Prototype Experience on Old River Overbank Structure

by Noel R. Oswalt, US Army Engineer Waterways, Experiment Station, United States,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Hydraulic Engineering

Abstract:

Physical hydraulic model tests of the Old River overbank structure were conducted to investigate the hydraulic performance of the stilling basin and evaluate riprap stability and scour potential for the 30-year-old structure. Operational improvements based upon the model results to enhance hydraulic performance of the approach and stilling basin have proven successful during six flood events in the past 10 years.
