Abstract:

The water quality model applied to the site is the EPA-supported hydrodynamic and water quality model WASP4 with a modification to enable it to better simulate riverine systems. To provide hydraulic and sediment parameters to TOXI4 (the toxic chemical component of WASP4), a Four-Point Implicit Finite Difference hydrodynamic model that is versatile, fully stable and accurate was adopted to replace DYNHYD4 (the hydrodynamic component of WASP4). The modified model provided necessary input files for WASP4. In addition to the above models, the vadose root zone model PRZM and a metal speciation model MINTEQA1 also were applied to the site, in order to characterize the sources of contaminants. Using this suite of models, the potential metal loads to the river were estimated.
