Abstract:

An Incremental Damage Assessment (IDA) has been completed for Lake Darling Dam, located on the Souris River, near Minot, North Dakota [1]. The IDA has indicated that a reduction in flood routing requirements for the dam is possible. The study included a detailed parametric evaluation of a 'reasonable range' of possible dam breach parameters in order to select the critical combination of parameters that predict maximum incremental impacts. Two separate operation scenarios were evaluated for a large flood control outlet works and the influence of outlet works capacity and operation on incremental impacts and flood routing requirements for the dam were determined.
