Surface Roughness with Erosion of Earth Channels

Abstract:

A determination of the stresses effective in soil detachment is essential in determining erodibility. The soil roughness that exists during testing and in natural channels is a key element in determining these stresses. The variance of the bed elevation is used as a measure of this roughness and is compared to the classical absolute roughness value, Manning's n, determined from flow characteristics.
