Abstract:

A procedure is developed to estimate the total bed material load without using the size distribution of suspended load. Because of the uncertainties involved in the calculation of the Rouse number in the concentration distribution, an optimization technique is used in this procedure to simplify the original modified H.A. Einstein method. Satisfactory agreement between the results from the simplified procedure and those from the original procedure is obtained for the field data tested. The proposed procedure can be used as an alternative method for estimating total bed material load when no gradation curve for the suspended sediment is available.
