Wave?Current Interaction and Sediment Transport

by Jan van de Graaff, Delft Univ of Technology, Netherlands,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Sediment Transport Modeling

Abstract:

The paper reports on a study into whether a close relationship between the mixing (diffusion) coefficient for the sediment, ?s, and the mixing (diffusion) coefficient for the fluid, ?f, does exist under the combination of waves and currents and whether ?s distributions derived from sediment concentration measurements can be used to predict the shape of the current velocity distribution plotted as a function of the vertical orbinate measured from the bottom. Some results of tests carried out in the Fluid Mechanics Laboratory of the Delft University of Technology are discussed.
