Abstract:

Turbulent shear stress in sediment-laden flows has been examined by several investigators including H.A. Einstein and N. Chien A. Zagustin and J.C. Willis. Three derivations resulted in different equations, which has generated confusion among researchers. Similarities and differences between these derivations are scrutinized to determine which are thought to be justifiable. It is found that all three derivations are rather incomplete although Einstein and Chien's method is most likely to be accurate.
