Abstract: Hydraulic jumps for Froude numbers below 4.5 have oscillating charactertistics. Economical design of stilling basins at such low Froude numbers poses a problem. Laboratory models of common designs of hydraulic jump type stilling basins for low inflow Froude numbers were studied. As a result of the studies an efficient stilling basin design using chute blocks and wedge-shaped baffle piers of vertex angle 150° cut back at an angle of 90° can be developed.
