Abstract:

Results of a load test on a drilled pier are presented. The test was performed to measure only skin friction of a 36 inch (0.91 m) diameter shaft without support at the end. The load test was performed in disintegrated rock which is derived from weathering of schist rock in the Piedmont. Although skin friction is often relied upon in the design of caissons, no published test data is known to be available for this formation. The load test results are correlated to standard penetration testing, pressuremeter testing, and cone penetration data.
