Abstract:

In order to investigate the magnitude and rate of increase in load capacity for piles installed in clayey soils, a series of load tests were performed at various intervals of time following initial driving. This paper presents a procedure for estimating the gain in adhesion for piles driven into clayey soils in the Chicago area. This information can then be used with procedures that predict pile capacity at the time of driving such as the wave equation or pile dynamic analyzer to predict the eventual long-term capacity of a pile.
