Abstract:

Sprayed-on polymer mortar has been used to construct low-cost, lightweight structures in a variety of locations. The addition of the two-component additive to one cubic yard of mortar (cement, sand, and water) results in approximately 1.3 cubic yards of polymer mortar having a compressive strength of 3,000 psi at a unit weight of 100 pcf. The paper describes how simple designs using an expanded polymer mortar provide an economical method of construction of housing by the future residents themselves.
