Abstract:

This paper briefly describes the effect of initial crookedness and residual stress on the behavior of steel members. Both imperfections are unavoidable consequences of modern fabrication methods. Both types of imperfection may have a significant effect of the behavior of steel structures. The imperfections generally tend to increase the deflections, cause earlier yielding, and reduce the buckling capacity of the structural components. The paper has discussed some methods for compensating for the adverse effects of the imperfections.
