Abstract:

Factors connected with fabrication that impact on the behavior of structural steel members are reviewed. Residual stresses that result from basic steel production and subsequent fabrication either have no impact or are considered in the design requirements. Workmanship associated with flame cutting and welding impact on the performance of connections due to fatigue, brittle fracture and lamellar tearing considerations.
