Abstract:

The Truck Commodity Survey was designed to gather information on the characteristics of truck traffic at toll barriers with minimal disruption to traffic flows. It was developed by the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey to learn more about eastbound (toll direction) truck traffic at its six bridges and tunnels and ultimately to help develop strategies for alleviating peak period congestion, assess the role of these trucks in the regional economy, and evaluate the impacts of proposed policies and actions. Study methods and results are discussed.
