Abstract:

An area of abandoned farmland and gravel quarries in northeastern Illinois has been converted to a test site for methods to reestablish or restore wetlands. Four stream gaging stations have been established with stage recorders and pumped samplers to measure water, sediment, and dissolved material fluxes. A weekly water-quality sampling program provides concentrations of suspended and dissolved materials during steady flow conditions. Water Year 1987 data are used to illustrate the results of this data collection effort. Five events, including a 100-year flood which occurred at the beginning of the water year, are discussed. Water and suspended sediment data are also presented and discussed.
