Probabilistic Maintenance Opportunities

by Fred J. Gientke, E&R Cent, United States,

Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Soil Properties Evaluation from Centrifugal Models and Field Performance

Abstract:

The Bureau of Reclamation has instituted a number of operation and maintenance oversight activities to ensure that Reclamation and water-user operated projects are operated and maintained in a manner that protects the Federal investment. In addition to these oversight activities, Reclamation conducts training on the operation of dams, and a workshop on management of operation and maintenance systems. Technical manuals are also being prepared or are published which discuss field examination techniques, dam instrumentation, installation procedures, herbicides, pesticide safety, guidelines for preparation of standing operating procedures, and others. The paper discusses how these programs and the oversight activities may provide opportunities for introduction of probabilistic methods.
