Abstract:

The calculation of near-bed sediment concentration is formulated in terms of equations governing the dispersion of heavy particles in non-uniform turbulent shear flows over stable gravel beds. The equations take into account the material properties of suspended sediment particles and the effect of a permeable rough bed surface on the mean velocity distribution of the carrying flow. The equations are solved analytically using various combinations of suspended load and flow conditions. The effect of these conditions on the near-bed sediment concentration is illustrated.
