Abstract:

The U.S. Navy is planning to implement the use of organotin antifouling paints into the fleet. Such paints are already in use by commercial vessels and private pleasure crafts. As part of the Navy's implementation, the Navy will monitor the concentration of organotin in its major harbors and seeks guidance in the design of their monitoring strategy. The numerical modeling performed in this study was intended to provide guidance for designing an appropriate and cost-effective strategy. This paper summarizes the calibration of the model to a dye study performed in 1987 and estimates the sensitivity of the results to the wind drag coefficient.
