Abstract:

Construction of Elk Creek Dam, located in Southwest Oregon, is currently underway with completion scheduled for September 1988. The main dam contract was awarded to Ohbayashi Gumi Ltd. , Tokyo, at a total bid price of 62,782,658. Roller compacted concrete (RCC) used will total more than one million cubic yards (765,000 cu m), with a bid price of 19. 57 per cubic yard (per . 765 cu m). Elk Creek Dam is the second major Corps-constructed concrete gravity dam using RCC. The Elk Creek project is the first to include a series of design and construction techniques that feature cost savings and high placement rates typical of other RCC projects in the United States, while at the same time including new and innovative state-of-the-art techniques to control cracking, prevent seepage, and provide void free concrete.
