Abstract:

Pamo Dam is designed as a 265 foot (81M) high gravity dam that will be located on the Santa Isabel Creek in San Diego County, California. RCC volume will be approximately 491,000 cubic yards (375,396 cubic meters) with a reservoir storage capacity of 130,000 acre-feet (1. 60 multiplied by 10**8 cubic meters). This reservoir will provide dry-year and emergency water supply storage for San Diego County. Following definition of critical structural design parameters including dynamic tensile strength, low adiabatic temperature rise, and compressive strength, the RCC mix design was initiated. This focused upon mix designs utilizing a minus three-inch (75mm) maximum size aggregate and containing 275 pounds per cubic yard (162 kg/cu m) of total cementitious materials. The mix design followed guidelines presented in American Concrete Institute (ACI) 207. 5R and was checked by employing selected mix design methods developed by the Japanese, as appropriate.
