Abstract:

Interactive casing and distributor hydraulic design and flow analysis software has been developed and tested. Until now, its application is limited to radial distributor turbo-machines. The design software offers excellent flexibility, including the ability to interact directly through numerous graphics. Modeler software produces the 3-D casing and vaneless distributor finite element grid and the 2-D wicket gate and stay vane cascade finite volume grid. Potential flow analysis is applied to the first grid system, and the solution superposition technique allows quick analysis results for different operating conditions. Viscous flow analysis for the distributor is performed by solving full Navier-Stokes equations coupled with a standard turbulence model. Theoretical and experimental results are presented, and the impact of the use of such design and analysis softwares is discussed.
