Abstract:

Evaluations of spillway discharge capacity and stability of structures for the Osage Hydroelectric Project indicated that the Project was unsafe during the occurrence of the Probable Maximum Flood (PMF). If the PMF were to occur, the water in the reservoir would rise above the crest of the dam subjecting the structure to a loading condition more severe than that for which they were orginally designed. Studies were conducted to investigate possible modifications which would ensure safe operation of the Project during passage of the PMF. These studies indicated that a post-tensioned rock anchor system, which would anchor the dam while the PMF flow was passed over the top, was themost cost effective solution.
