Document Type: Proceeding Paper

Part of: Coastal Engineering 1986

Abstract:

A preliminary design and construction plan for a prototype wave energy conversion system is described. While the design methodology and construction procedures are intended for generic application, the particular design presented herein has been customized for installation at a unique site on the northeast shore of St. Croix Island. The system is designed to satisfy a one mega-watt energy requirement and economic viability is assessed with respect to system life-cycle costs and alternative energy sources. Fundamentals of site characterization and selection are also discussed.
