Part of: Coastal Engineering 1986

Abstract:

Work done in developing concepts for pneumatic wave energy conversion based on theoretical analyses of the hydrodynamic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems with some estimates of performance are reviewed. Concepts for utilization of electric power generation are discussed as are the turbine and mechanical systems design requirements. Results from prototype testing and the turbine control strategy are presented and compared with results from at-sea tests on the Japanese test barge 'Kaimei'. Finally, turbine design details and operational considerations are reviewed and some general comparisons and comments presented.
