Abstract:

The KVAENER multi resonant oscillating wave column (MOWC) power station is both described and discussed. The power station, which is now on-line, is designed to produce 1 MW of peak electrical power, while averaging at 500 kWe. The projected costs of the electrical energy are in the range of 0. 04 to 0. 05 U. S. dollars per kilowthr. With both advances in technology and mass production, these energy costs are predicted to drop to a range from 0. 03 to 0. 04 U. S. dollars, making wave energy conversion very attractive.
