| Abstract: |
The discovery of small reserves of gas does not, in general economically justify the investment required for construction of conventional offshore platforms. In this context, the development and economic advantages of monopode platforms for drilling and producing gas wells, in water depths of the order of 100 ft (30 m). A collar caisson was considered in the design of such monopods, in order to decrease excessive deflections at the mudline level when subjected to lateral loads. The study reported herein was carried out in order to assess the influence of the collar caisson on the lateral deflections at mudline. |
